Understanding the War on Terror

Why terrorists are afraid of George Bush, but not John Kerry

The "War on Terror" is a complex subject deserving more than can be divulged in this brief article, but in light of recent news events it becomes evident that there is a fundamental lack of understanding what it is all about. Here are some of the key points:

Current Events

In a recent USA Today news article, Osama Bin Laden has heavily criticized President Bush. His statement that "Any state that does not mess with our security has naturally guaranteed its own security." is a back door endorsement showing his preference for the likes of John Kerry as President.

Kerry's senatorial voting record has shown him weak on defense and military intelligence, and has repeatedly voted against them for 20 years. This fact is not lost on terrorists who would like nothing more than to see America become a weak nation too wrapped up in self indulgence to be able to take on, or even defend itself against terrorism. To quote the Minot Daily News, "America's enemies surely would rejoice in a Kerry election, for a Kerry election would mean turning inward in denial of the nature of the conflict in which our nation is now engaged."

Further, Kerry has promised that if elected he will have troops home as quickly as possible, apparently with little or no regard for whether Iraq has a well established government or not. But what should we expect from someone whose view coincides with the liberal Leftist ideology that supposes that oil is the reason for the war? Unfortunately, it is that very lack of understanding of the nature of the war that strikes fear into the heart of Americans who know Kerry is unable to lead us in a time of war.

Nature of the War

If in fact the war was about oil or territorial conquest; America would have simply gone to Iraq, overthrown its totalitarian regime, and raised the American flag in victory. What America has done instead is removed a brutal, inhumane madman so that Iraq can establish its own government, free from repression and tyranny. What was not understood by many is that the politics of Iraq was never a threat to the U.S., but behind that government was something truly menacing - support for extremist Muslim terrorists. To understand how significant this threat is, one needs to examine the extreme faction of Islam.

History of Terror

In the early 600s A.D., a self-proclaimed prophet named Mohammed penned a book now known as the Koran. He claimed it was "the final revelation from God," superseding the Bible and all of the Jewish books of antiquity, such as the Torah. To address all of the issues with Islamic theology is beyond the scope of this page, but suffice it to say that the Koran was very different than the Bible or the Torah in that it deviates from historical facts, and grossly misinterprets those writings. Further, it directs worship to a previously unknown god named Allah. It taught that this was a god of judgement, vengeance, and intolerance as opposed to the God of love, patience, and forgiveness as portrayed in both the Torah and the Bible.

As would be expected, Mohammed's teachings were met with charges of heresy, and both Mohammed and his followers were driven out everywhere they tried to propagate their message. After repeatedly encountering resistance nearly everywhere he went, Mohammed decided to no longer flee those who opposed him, but to engage them in bloody battle.

But it wasn't enough to simply defend themselves. Mohammed's followers were so convinced his doctrine of conversion of all peoples was correct, they became aggressive. Thus began the Islamic tactic of "conversion by the sword." Although Mohammed claimed that the Torah and Bible were the basis for his writings, unlike either of those books he taught that "infidels" (those not believing in what he had written) were to be "brought under submission" by whatever means necessary, even if that meant death. By comparison, Jesus taught his disciples that if people refused the gospel message, they were to simply dust off their shoes and move on - forced conversions were not permitted. History shows that the widespread propagation of Islam was due to people being given two choices - convert or die!

Jihad - Holy War

In a bizarre twist, and despite their claim that the Bible and Torah are correct, extremist Muslims have postured themselves as mortal enemies to all Jews and Christians. They have determined that the entire world must be converted to Islam, and every infidel converted or destroyed. This is called Jihad, meaning a holy war. While that may sound like the rantings of a maniacal madman, it is in fact what the Koran teaches. They have deeply indoctrinated the people of the Middle East with their fanatical message of hate, and declared this war upon unbelievers everywhere, including other sects of Islam. They believe that Allah will only be pleased when the entire Earth is in submission to Islam; so if you are Jewish or Christian, prepare to be persecuted or martyred for your faith - no matter what nation you live in.

The Great Misunderstanding

While Muslims everywhere would like you to think Islam is a religion of peace, the facts prove that to be very far from the truth. To most people the word 'Islam' is associated with terrorism and aggression. Every act of terrorism (barring the Oklahoma City bombing) has been perpetrated by Muslim extremists. Thousands of lives have been lost in terror attacks and "ethnic cleansing" throughout the world. It becomes painfully obvious that this is a religious battle - not one over politics or territory. It is important to make the distinction that the battle is stopping Islamic aggression against the world, NOT the world against Islam.
This is what makes it such a difficult battle to fight. Territories are easily defined, but how does a nation defend against a religious faction that has no readily identifiable traits - until it too late? How can we differentiate between terrorist Muslims and those who are not, especially when they are intermingled throughout the societies of the world?

Because of this situation, the world views the solution as a Muslim responsibility. They feel that even moderate Muslims cannot be inculpable unless they work from within their own belief system to condemn and eradicate this extreme form of Islam. Since this is not happening, it has become necessary for the nations of the world to use force to bring an end to terrorism. Islamic extremists don't try to avert this because it makes those trying to stop terrorism appear as the agressors. However, to believe it can be stopped any other way is simply willful ignorance.
George Bush apparently understands this, and has acted accordingly. Conversely, this is why John Kerry's lack of understanding on the War on Terror would hurt not only the U.S., but the world community as well.

Why Do They Hate the United States?

Simply put, they hate the U.S. because of our support for Israel. There are secondary reasons like their fear of Westernization, their perception that Western lifestyles are decadent (they must watch too much TV), and jealousy over the success and wealth of the nations that do not live under the repression of Islam. But foremost is U.S. support for a Jewish nation. Note that Israel is the central hot spot of the entire planet. Studying the Bible is the best place to understand why this is. George Bush has done this and is therefore much more qualified to address the problem than Kerry; who demonstrates religiosity, but has no real comprehension.

Also, do not for a minute believe the myth that the Palestinians only want the land Israel occupies. They want nothing less than the extermination of the Jews. It is not about land at all since Muslim nations own 672 times the amount of land as Israel, and nearly unlimited oil as well. It is only genocide that will satisfy them - something that the U.S. will not allow.

Why Terrorists Prefer Kerry

During the Clinton administration many terrorist attacks were carried out without fear of reprisal because of the lack of response by the U.S. This gave the terrorists the perception that America was weak and unable to stop them in their nefarious deeds. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Kovar Towers bombing, the USS Cole bombing - all happened on Clinton's watch without retaliation.

George Bush has brought the War on Terror right to the terrorist's doorstep. This has turned the tables and done great damage to their cause. This is why Osama Bin Laden (leader of the terrorists) has so heavily criticized Bush. Bin Laden has stated that if we leave him and his terrorists alone, they will leave the U.S. alone. However, the vast majority of Americans feel that the terrorists declared war on the U.S. on 9/11, and that the only way to be secure is to defeat terrorism; not capitulate to it.

As you have heard in the Kerry campaign ads, he intends to get the U.S. military out of Iraq as quickly as possible - essentially whether the job is done or not. This of course plays right into the hands of the terrorists, and is why electing Kerry would be a fatal mistake for America and the world. Terrorism left unchecked will only increase - unless of course we "establish a dialogue with them" and try to appease them by giving in to their demands; as some liberals suggest.

Can You Trust a Terrorist?

It is the terrorist's hope that Americans will elect John Kerry so that things will return to the way they were under Clinton - no resistance. Again, Kerry's weakness on defense and military intelligence is what terrorists prefer to face - not Bush's aggressive battle against them.
Unfortunately, Osama Bin Laden's promise of leaving the U.S. alone if we quit trying to stop terrorism is as empty as most of John Kerry's campaign promises. Here is the simple reasoning behind why this is a bold faced lie from Bin Laden: IF Bin Laden intends to be true to Islam (he does), which teaches complete conversion of planet Earth, he CANNOT leave the U.S. alone. Why? Because from their perspective a country that allows religious freedom, and does not force it's citizens to be of any one religion - namely Islam - must be defeated.

It is also important to keep things in perspective: Osama Bin Laden IS NOT A WORLD LEADER. What Osama Bin Laden is, is an evil megalomaniac suffering delusions of grandeur, with intentions of dictating the course of the world by terror. His agenda is far more political and economic than religious (although he is using Islam to justify bloodshed). He is no different than Hitler, Stalin, Idi Amin, Mussolini, or any other tyrant that has appeared on the stage of world history. None of those were defeated with pacifism, nor will be Bin Laden.

TERRORISM MUST BE VANQUISHED NOW!
